HELP TIPS FOR PARENTS
Many parents wonder if their child is ready to begin piano study. One important thing to consider is whether or not your child shows interest in the idea. The age for starting lesson varies from child to child. If your child can sit still at the piano for 15 minutes that's a good sign! Development (physical) needs to be part of the consideration. Some hands are simply not ready. You could do pre keyboard type classes for a year to help get a head start and then do piano. Practicing is necessary for any real results just as in any new activity that requires learned skills. To make the process more enjoyable for both parent and child, consider these tips:
As with anything, the learning process has its ups and downs and piano is no different. Once a child starts to feel
confidence the process is easier. The more practice, the better the results!
- Make time for your child to practice by creating a routine during regular homework time. Even just 5 minutes to start
- Avoid arguing by sticking to the homework routine and soon it will an accepted routine
- Listen and praise and make a big deal out of successful playing and good practicing
- Help the child decide on fun or favorite music selections to ask teacher to provide
- Give teacher feedback about progress or issues with at home practice
